Teeth Whitening Dentist Hamilton

We suggest bleaching if you would like to whiten the natural shade of your teeth. It is a standard procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Dental professionals use several different techniques for bleaching and teeth whitening in NZ.

Regardless of your preferred treatment option, you should see a professional dentist or hygienist for a consultation to check your suitability for whitening treatment. During this consultation, your hygienist or dentist will examine your oral health and identify any treatment you might need to have done before you go ahead with your whitening to ensure that it is as efficient as possible.

In-Person Tooth Whitening

Professional whitening procedures done in a dental clinic are one of the fastest and most effective ways to brighten your teeth. They will usually take around one and a half to two hours to complete, depending on the degree of teeth whitening in NZ you want, and offer almost ‘instant’ results.

A dentist or trained hygienist will apply a protective gel to your lips and gums before applying whitening gel, which contains the bleaching agent hydrogen peroxide, to your teeth.

A special LED light activates the gel. It might be challenging to keep your mouth open for so long, but listening to music or watching a movie can help distract you. Best of all, you’ll usually only require one treatment.

Take-Home

Teeth Whitening Kits

On your first visit to Hamilton Family Dental, our dentist will take an alginate impression of your teeth to make a custom dental tray for your teeth whitening in NZ.

Once this process is finished, the impression will be sent to the laboratory. Within days, your complete, customised whitening kit will be ready to be collected. Your kit will contain:

  • Two new custom-made trays (one for your top teeth and one for your bottom teeth)
  • Syringes of whitening gel
  • Easy-to-follow instructions

Once you’re home, apply a small drop of gel inside each tooth impression. Place the trays on your teeth, and then sit back and relax for a few hours. After the procedure, remove and rinse both trays and brush your teeth.

Repeat the process over the next week or two until you have achieved your desired level of tooth whitening.

So relax and enjoy a glass of red wine on a long summer evening or a coffee in the morning to get you going without having to worry about your teeth paying the price. With our professional teeth whitening services, we’ll keep your pearly whites bright and shining.

Frequently Asked Question

What's the best way to whiten my teeth?

Patients ask us about whitening their teeth all the time. It’s a tough question because there is no universal answer that applies for everyone. The fastest and most effective way to whiten teeth is typically an in-office professional whitening procedure. However, depending how dramatic you need your results to be, you may not require this type of procedure. Our best advice is to speak with your dentist or dental hygienist about what type of teeth whitening they would recommend. The best results are always going to be a result of a professional treatment, but your dentist can help you determine which treatment is right for you.

Do whitening toothpastes work?

Commercial whitening toothpastes vary greatly in their ability to whiten teeth. They work by removing surface stains from the teeth with the use of mild abrasives. However, unlike professional whitening, some whitening toothpastes do not alter the intrinsic colour of the teeth. Toothpastes that are effective in removing stains can also destroy tooth enamel in the process. These toothpastes use harsh abrasives. With repeated use, harsh abrasives begin to damage tooth enamel and can contribute to increased tooth sensitivity. If you would like to try a whitening toothpaste, consult with your dentist first.

Can you get yellow teeth white again?

YES. The dentist can do it faster due to their strength of products or you do it at home which can take more time.

For fast results your best option is to see your dentist for an in-office whitening treatment. Your dentist will use a whitener with a strong concentration of hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, sometimes along with a light to speed the whitening process up. Your teeth will be noticeably whiter at the end of the treatment, though your dentist may suggest more than one treatment if your teeth have yellowed considerably.

In-Home Whitening

Your dentist can also provide you with an in-home whitening kit with a custom mouthpiece and a whitening gel that has a lower concentration of hydrogen peroxide than the in-office treatment. By wearing the mouthpiece filled with whitening gel each day for a number of weeks, you can achieve a whiter smile. This type of whitening takes longer than an in-office treatment, but can still give you a brighter smile in as little as two or three weeks.
